Since our last report, the situation has not remained the same according to our brethren living in the Department de L’Ouest. Improvement or success remains elusive. The February UN report on Haiti stated that over 85 percent of Port-au-Prince is under gang control, and Haiti is heading for something unprecedented unless reinforcements are sent to the Multinational Forces or MSS. The written UN report is available on the website, and the speech was also broadcast on many social networks. At our last meeting on Saturday, the brethren estimated that 95 percent of the city is under control due to recently lost territory. Only parts of Canapé Vert and Villa de Dieu are still not fully controlled by the gangs. The same UN report painted a horrible picture of murder, rape, and violent attacks on churches and schools, with women and children being the most vulnerable. Here are the numbers for 2024: more than 5,300 have been killed, over 2,200 have been injured, and over 1 million people have been displaced. These numbers are only the recorded or estimated figures. Other news networks have reported even larger numbers.
Unless the Lord intervenes, Haiti is going to self-destruct. In another video by a daring French journalist, communities that were once inhabited, with shops and street vendors peddling their wares, where children once played freely and happily in the streets, are now left desolate, totally deserted except for a few heavily armed gang members. Their pants are set partway between their knees and their waist with their boxers showing. They are now the rule of law. Highly drugged on weed and locally made potions (alcohol and plants), their consciences are numbed. One of the violent men, while smoking weed right before the camera, looked dazed with his eyes popping. He acknowledged smoking weed multiple times a day. The streets are littered with trash, damaged or stolen household goods like broken chairs, tables, or mattresses, and burned vehicles. Signs of arson were seen with multiple houses left darkened by fire and smoke. Not a single dog or cat was seen in the video. Death and desolation seem to reign supreme.
The same journalist took a ride with the police in one of their reinforced vehicles. Great fear gripped him after two bullets hit the reinforced glass, leaving big cracks right behind his head. The battle went on for a while before the police left the area. There was no gain, no victory.
I’ve seen many clips like this one, but that is the worst video or news item I have ever watched on Haiti. It left me with a sad and hopeless feeling. I can’t see how Haiti can pull itself out of this pit unless help is sent from above.
One detailed report from a friend hiding on the west side of Port-au-Prince was received tonight. She feels trapped with no way out, just waiting. The accounts are too demonic to relate. I think the shock of it all is affecting her mind, and that is why we are no longer reporting detailed accounts from Haiti. It has reached a proportion that is beyond the pit. Our brethren need our prayers and support.
